Coda

Hank Jones (1918-2010) passed away on May 16. One of the enduring legends of jazz music, Jones was still gigging nearly to the end of his life. An impeccable pianist, Jones played and recorded with so many fine jazz musicians including Carlie Parker, Miles Davis, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Billy Eckstine, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Milt Jackson, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Roy Eldridge, Coleman Hawkins, Joe Lovano, Charlie Haden, Brad Mehldau and many many others. There must have been something in the Jones family genetics as his brothers Elvin (drums) and Thad (trumpet) were innovative musicians, too.

Time marches on and we all reach then end some day. May we all do so with the grace and quiet brilliance shown by people like Hank Jones.
