3, 2, 1... done for the summer

We had a great turnout for the last Saturday Jazz Workshop until fall. This was the second of three rehearsals for the McRae Park Family Fun Day on 6/5/10. We had fourteen people in attendance and actually sounded pretty good to my ears.

Turning out for the session were Peter (bari sax), Ira (alto sax), Luke (soprano sax and flute), Steve (trumpet and flugelhorn), Evan (bass), Sam (trumpet), Gene (drums), Paul (keyboards), Owen (accordion), Tim (guitar) and vocalists Annie, Toria, Dick and Matt.

Tunes played today included "Blue Monk," "Ornithology," "Goodbye Porkpie Hat," "Stella By Starlight," "Summertime," "What Is This Thing Called Love," "Girl From Ipanema," ""Corcovado," "One Note Samba," "Don't Go To Strangers," "Nature Boy," "Moonlight In Vermont," "Nearness of You," "Centerpiece,""East of the Sun," "Fever," "Route 66," "Let's Fall In Love," "I'll Remember April."

Due to the park building being closed on weekends from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, we can't meet for Saturday workshops during the summer. We will be instead meeting on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:45 starting on 6/3/10 (but the park building will be closed 6/10/10 so no session that night). The first Thursday night session will be the final rehearsal for the gig at the McRae Park Fun Day on 6/5/10.

In the photos: first up is Ira, Peter, Dick (with the red hat looking down) and Toria; second is Luke, Steve and Matt; third is Paul and Owen; and fourth is Annie and Dick.
