NEXT WEEK: Hook and Ladder (Lake St. and Minnehaha Ave.) 1-5pm

EMERGENCY CHANGE OF PLANS: The Hook is unavailable for this Saturday and the next two as well. We convene this Saturday, Feb. 10, at TowerLight 3601 Wooddale Ave. S., St. Louis Park, 11am-3pm. (Don't forget to check in at the front desk when you arrive.)

Good news, drummers: we finally have the Workshop drum set at the Hook. The proprietors have generously made space for us to store it in the basement. So we should always have a set as long as we are playing there. [BUT NOT THE NEXT THREE SATURDAYS!]

The combination of Super Bowl-related activities and the snow kept our numbers down, but we still got six there: Jack K. (trumpet), Wes (tenor), Raphael (bass), Carl (trombone), Craig (guitar), and Steve H. (piano and alto)--no vocalists, sad to say, but that left more time for solos.

Jack got us rolling with Bye Bye Blackbird (II-73). Yours truly pulled out the less played Imagination (II-195). Raphael had the next pick, and went with Doxy (II-111). Carl opted for old favorite Two Degrees East, Three Degrees West (I-408). We could have used a shot following our first attempts at Straight No Chaser (I-386), Wes' call, but we got it cooking just fine the second time through. Back to Jack, who wanted to play Indiana (II-201), which was fine with us. Your scribe was feeling nostalgic, apparently, and called off a moody version of The Nearness Of You (II-285), though it started to rock a bit by the end. Jack had to leave, but Craig was set up and ready by this point, and requested The Rainbow Connection (III-330). Raphael challenged us with Coltrane's Naima (I-293) which, once we started to get the hang of it, proved satisfying. Craig took another shot, this time Pure Imagination (III-327). Carl got the next one, and we went bluesy with Mood Indigo (I-279). For Wes, it was time to get on the Blue (Trane) Train (I-54). While Carl and Wes pulled up stakes, the remaining three of us finished up with Satin Doll (I-349).
