Last Summer Session

The final summer session for the Jazz Workshop in the Park was somewhat subdued, mostly because the PA system wasn't working and the instrumentalists had to keep it soft in order to hear the vocalists. Those softly playing instrumentalists included Gene (drums) and Josh (guitar) with a nicely balanced saxophone section - Steve (alto), Keith (tenor) and Peter (bari). The vocalists belting out the tunes without any electronic enhancement included Annie, Victoria and Dick.

The songs covered by the workshop this week included Willow Weep for Me, So Lar, My Funny Valentine, I Thought About You, Can't Help Loving That Man, Tenor Madness, In Walked Bud, When Sunny Gets Blue, Who Can I Turn To (in two different styles), Honeysuckle Rose, Bye Bye Blackbird, Day By Day, The Preacher, I Could Write a Book, Blame It on My Youth, and Corcovado.

No session this week! The first non-summer session will move back to the regular Saturday noon meet time on September 10th.

And if, for some silly reason, you won't be getting your jazz fix at the Workshop on September 10th, you might want to see if you can get it over at the Selby Ave Jazz Fest in St. Paul (www.selbyavejazzfest.com)
