It was a lot of fun. There was a small rhythm section (just bass, two guitars and drums), two singers, and a few horns, brass, flute, etc. We mostly played swing tunes but did at least two bossas and a ballad or two. I was laughing to myself at the workshop because I had practiced a lot of partial voicings so as to fit in better with a very full rhythm accompaniment group (last week we had at least 3 guitars), but because we were so sparse I ended up trying to remember my Freddie Green chords. :)
This was the first time I played with the group, and I can't wait for next week. Once again, it was a blast. - Josh, guitarist
Due to low level of extra activity, this calendar is essentially dormant.
The Jazz Workshop's Mission and Philosophy
The Jazz Workshop was started by the late Sam Favors and Gene Adams in 1976 and has been operating continuously ever since. Sam's mission statement: "The Workshop is a community-based group, organized to develop activities and projects aimed toward increasing jazz music performance arts, business and artistic acumen. It is a place for musicians to practice the craft of jazz. The workshop is for all those who show up and play or listen."
